Tasted blind at the Burgundy 2011 horizontal tasting in Beaune. The 2011 Chablis Grand Cru Valmur from François Raveneau has an open and expressive, mineral-driven bouquet with citrus peel, nettle and hawthorn scents – much more complex than others in this flight. The palate has a slightly honeyed entry with good acidity and weight. There are hints of tangerine and apricot in the background, but at the front is a focused, intense spiciness that follows through right to the peacock-tail finish. Excellent.
