La Chapelle from Jaboulet: the 1978. Superb, the wine soared from the glass with a stunning bouquet of dark berries, espresso roast, truffle, rich soil and grilled meat. On the palate, it was extraordinarily multidimensional, concentrated and complete, still amazingly youthful, and eloquent testimony to the fact that Hermitage can be one of the longest-lived of France’s great wines.
