Kiedricher Gräfenberg, Trockenbeerenauslese, Robert Weil 2003, half bottle

Looking for something big, maybe in the $500 for a half-bottle range? Well, Weingut Robert Weil’s got a wine for you! Honeyed minerals, spices, buckets of botrytis, red cherries, and apricots are found in the complex aromas of the 2003 Riesling Trockenbeerenauslese Kiedrich Grafenberg. An unbelievably rich effort, its layered personality conquers the taster with lavish waves of honey-laced fruits. Hugely spicy, oily-textured, and nectar-like, it retains extraordinary balance while unleashing dense, luxurious red, yellow, and tropical fruits.

Is this a great vintage for this fabulous wine domain? Absolutely not! Actually it is one of the more challenging vintages for the region and most wines are to not top. But having tasted this wine, much to my surprise, I can only say it is a once in a life time experience". This is so intense, so otherworldly special and great that you have to taste it to believe it. But it is one of those wines you should experience at least once. This is a nectar of unbelievable intensity: its tropical, exotic and Hawaiian lala land. And actually a half bottle in this case is a lot as it is overwhelming. Top!
